My Best Self: Laura Ryan

Becoming My Best Self
How do you define striving to be your “Best Self?”
I know my Best Self is when I’m balancing my family, my career, and myself. I have a routine for each day to prioritize each of those dynamics, typically starting with time alone in an early morning workout; spending the workday meeting with as many disciplines of Orion as possible; and finishing each day by making dinner for my family to sit and eat together.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would like to do a European Food Tour…start in the north and do a full loop around to visit all the cities and country sides to experience the diverse cultures and foods

What do you try and do frequently to focus on mental health/wellness?
For me, fitness is a key component of my wellness routine. I love the HIIT workouts of OrangeTheory Fitness, and adopted the Peloton platform during the Pandemic. Guided fitness classes push me to work hard but take away the responsibility of deciding how to do that!

What mistake did you learn the most from having experienced?
I don’t think I have made a career choice mistake, but I have taken jobs that I didn’t enjoy. When I was in advertising sales, I realized that I like the pursuit of the sell but I don’t like working as an independent contributor. I really thrive when working in a team setting and came back to the agency side to be part a community that works together to service clients.

Getting to Know Me …
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Foxboro, MA, the oldest of four children. I left for college at Fordham University in the Bronx, NY, and finally admitted “New Yorker” status around the time my son was born 15 years later. But I still root for the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics!

Something interesting you might not know about me …
I started my media career as an intern in the media department at McCann-Erickson (which became UM) my junior year in college. IPG is the only advertising company I have worked at!
